1. The Senate has approved N68.3 trillion Appropriation Bill for the 2026 fiscal year. The approval followed the presentation and the consideration of the report of the Senate Committee on Appropriations in the Committee of Supplies during Tuesday’s plenary.
2. Governor Bala Mohammed of Bauchi State has indicated plans to defect to the African Democratic Congress, ADC, saying the party has the potential to unseat the ruling All Progressive Congress, APC in 2027. The governor made this known shortly after a closed-door meeting with a delegation of the National Chairman of the ADC led by former Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Babachir David Lawal.
3. Malam Nasir El-Rufai, former governor of Kaduna State, has been returned to the custody of the Independent Corrupt Practices and other related Commission, ICPC. The former governor, who left custody on March 27, 2026, following the death of his mother, was re-arraigned earlier on Tuesday.
4. Nigeria’s total debt stock is set to rise to N155.1 trillion, following an additional $6 billion loan request by President Bola Tinubu, hurriedly approved by the Senate on Tuesday. The $6 billion loan at an exchange rate of N1,400 per dollar, adds N8.4 trillion to the country’s debt stock which stood at N146.69 trillion at the end of 2025, to N155.1 trillion.
5. The Naira yesterday depreciated to N1,420 per dollar in the parallel market from N1,415 per dollar Monday. Likewise, the naira depreciated to N1,387 per dollar in the Nigerian Foreign Exchange Market, NFEM.
6. African Democratic Party, ADC, has accused the All Progressives Congress, APC, of putting pressure on the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, to interfere in its internal affairs, saying there was coordinated effort to destabilise the party following the defection of Rabiu Kwankwaso. The party warned that what was happening raised serious concerns about whether Nigeria’s electoral body could remain independent.
7. The 2023 gubernatorial flagbearer of the All Progressives Congress, APC, in Kano State, Nasiru Yusuf Gawuna, has formally joined the African Democratic Congress, ADC, in the state. With the development, Gawuna has pitched his tent with the former Presidential Candidate of the New Nigeria People’s Party, NNPP, Sen. Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, who also registered his membership with the ADC on Monday.
8. President Bola Tinubu has told security agencies to be proactive in preventing attacks taking place in different parts of the country, especially in the north, condemning the attacks by gunmen in Angwan Rukuba district, Jos, Plateau State. He equally condemned the attacks in Kahir village in Kagarko Local Government Area of Kaduna State.
9. The Defence Headquarters has placed troops on nationwide alert ahead of the Easter celebrations, assuring Nigerians of tightened security. The DHQ also reaffirmed that ongoing support from the United States is strengthening counter-terrorism operations, with a visible impact expected in the coming weeks.
10. Edo State Command of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency on Tuesday said it seized illicit drugs worth N1.8bn in the first three months of the year. The commander, Mitchell Ofoyeju, who disclosed this while presenting the command’s first-quarter operational scorecard in Benin City, said 18,380 kilogrammes of drugs were recovered from 104 suspected drug traffickers.
