1. A faction of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, backed by the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike has announced the suspension of the Acting National Chairman, Umar Damagun and some members of the National Working Committee, NWC of the party. National Secretary of the party Senator Samuel Anyanwu, who was earlier suspended for alleged anti-party activities by the NWC after an emergency meeting, announced the suspension of Damagun and five others.
2. The Federal Government has announced plans to release N11.9 billion within 72 hours to settle part of the salary and allowance arrears owed to medical professionals. The announcement comes hours after the National Association of Resident Doctors, NARD began an indefinite strike over what it described as the government’s failure to meet its demands.
3. President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has rejected the designation of Nigeria as a Country of Particular Concern by U.S. President Donald Trump over alleged persecution of Christians. The president insisted that the characterisation does not align with the nation’s reality or constitutional values.
4. The United States President, Donald Trump, has threatened to deploy military forces in Nigeria if the alleged genocide against Christians is not stopped in the country. Trump, in a post on his Truth Social platform on Saturday, directed the Department of War to prepare for “possible action” if the killings continued.
5. The All Progressives Congress has urged the Independent National Electoral Commission and the Nigeria Police Force to investigate Anambra State Governor, Prof Chukwuma Soludo, over his recent promise of cash rewards to party supporters in wards that deliver victory for the All Progressives Grand Alliance in next Saturday’s governorship election.
6. Some kidnappers have abducted a consultant neurosurgeon, identified simply as Dr Mbanugo T., in Uruagu Nnewi in Nnewi North Local Government, Anambra State. The doctor was said to have been kidnapped along the New Nnewi-Oba road in the late hours of Thursday. A top official of the Nigeria Medical Association in Anambra State disclosed the kidnapping of their colleague to journalists on Friday.
7. Operatives of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority have uncovered a fake gun suspected to be used in terrorising residents during a shanty demolition exercise at the Costain Bus Stop, in the Surulere Local Government Area of the state. It was observed that the wooden shanties were erected behind the bus stop shed, along the setback on the railway track, and under the bridge within the area.
8. Former Ekiti State Governor, Ayodele Fayose, has congratulated the factional acting National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party, Mohammed Abdulrahman, urging him to move quickly to unite the party and restore peace amid growing internal divisions. Abdulrahman was appointed Acting National Chairman of the PDP following the suspension of the National Chairman, Umar Damagum and others.
9. Troops of Operation HADIN KAI (OPHK) have recorded significant successes in the ongoing counter-terrorism operations, neutralising several terrorists and securing key locations across Borno and Adamawa States between Oct. 25 and October 31. The Media Information Officer, OPHK, Lt.-Col. Sani Uba, in a statement on Saturday, said the operation thwarted multiple terrorist attacks, destroyed logistics networks, and prevented planned assaults on civilian communities.
10. The Police Command in Ebonyi says based on credible information, it raided a hideout in Iyonu community, Ishielu Local Government of the state and neutralised two robbery suspects. This is contained in a statement by SP Joshua Ukandu, the Command Public Relations Officer (PPRO), in Abakaliki on Saturday.
