‎1. Nineteen bandits were feared dead following a gun duel between troops of the Joint Task Force Operation MESA in Shanono Local Government Area of Kano State. Two soldiers and a local vigilante also died during the operation, which was led by 3 Brigade Nigerian Army on Saturday night.

2. The Lagos State Police Command has declared activist and politician Omoyele Sowore wanted over alleged plans to incite public disorder and obstruct major roads across the state. The Commissioner of Police, Olohundare Jimoh, announced this on Monday while addressing journalists at the Iyana-Oworo end of the Third Mainland Bridge.

3. Vice President Kashim Shettima on Monday received Bayelsa Governor Douye Diri into the All Progressives Congress, declaring the move a “homecoming” and a defining moment for national unity and political integration. The historic reception, held at the Samson Siasia Sports Stadium in Yenagoa, drew a large crowd as Diri and his supporters formally dumped the Peoples Democratic Party for the ruling APC.

4. The faction loyal to Nyesom Wike, Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, has taken over Wadata Plaza, National Headquarters of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP. Following the crisis rocking the party, the Wike faction appointed Muhammed Abdulrahman as acting chairman.

6. Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has dismissed claims of a “Christian genocide” in Nigeria, describing the allegation as politically motivated and “a case of politics taken too far.” Wike accused elements in the opposition of pushing the narrative to discredit President Bola Tinubu’s administration and recycle the same political tactics used against former President Goodluck Jonathan.

7. The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board, JAMB, has approved the extension of the 2025 admissions deadline for public universities from Friday, October 31, 2025, to Monday, November 17, 2025. The board announced this in a statement by its Public Communication Adviser, Dr. Fabian Benjamin.

8.The Naira on Monday appreciated to N1,455 per dollar in the parallel market from N1,475 per dollar last weekend. But the naira depreciated to N1,438 per dollar in the Nigerian Foreign Exchange Market, NFEM.

The Nigeria Police Force has denied reports alleging that it compelled its personnel nationwide to purchase a handbook titled, “Attitudinal Change Handbook for the Nigeria Police Force” at the cost of N2,000 per officer. An online report had claimed that police authorities directed all personnel to pay the sum for the book before Thursday but the police in Monday denied it.

10. The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency has uncovered a new strain of cannabis known as “California Loud” in Lagos State. This revelation follows the recent discovery of a secret laboratory used for producing Colorado — a potent synthetic variant of cannabis — inside a residential building in Ajao Estate, Isolo, Lagos.
