1. Members of the Islamic State West African Province, ISWAP terror group yesterday abducted 13 teenage female farmers from Askira-Uba Local Government Area of Borno State. The Deputy Speaker, Borno State House of Assembly, Abdullahi Askira, who confirmed the abduction, said the victims were abducted on their fields in Mussa District.
2. Barring any last-minute change, former Vice President Atiku Abubakar will today formally register with the African Democratic Congress, ADC and pick up his membership card. Top aides confirmed to Daily Trust on Sunday that final arrangements had been concluded for Atiku to register at Jada Ward 1 in Jada Local Government Area of Adamawa State.
3. President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has ordered the withdrawal of police officers currently providing security for Very Important Persons, VIPs in the country. This was disclosed by Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy in a statement on Sunday.
4. The 38 worshippers who were abducted from Christ Apostolic Church (CAC), Eruku, Ekiti Local Government Area of Kwara State, have been released. Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq announced their freedom on Sunday afternoon, expressing thanks to President Bola Tinubu.
5. Troops of the North East Joint Task Force ‘Operation Hadin Kai’ (OPHK) have chased Boko Haram terrorists out of a community in Magumeri Local Government Area of Borno State. The insurgents stormed the town, burning down houses and vehicles, including that of civilian JTF.
6. No fewer than 50 students of St. Mary’s Private Catholic Primary and Secondary Schools, abducted by bandits at Papiri in Agwara Local Government Area of Niger State last Friday, have escaped from their abductors. Bulus Dauwa Yohanna, chairman of the Niger State chapter of Christian Association of Nigera, CAN said the pupils regained their freedom between Friday and Saturday and “quietly reunited with their families.”
7. Following the spate of terrorism across northern states, the Bauchi State government through the ministry of education has ordered the temporary closure of all schools in the State. A statement by the Public Relations Officer of Bauchi State Ministry of Education, Jalaludeen Usman, said the closure affects all primary, secondary, and tertiary institutions, including Federal Government-owned schools.
8. The Nigeria Police, Bauchi State Command has confirmed the killing of five policemen by bandits in Sabon Sara Village of Darazo, Local Government Area, LGA, Bauchi State. Public Relations Officer of the Command, CSP, Ahmed Wakil, in a statement said the tragedy occurred during an intelligence-led visibility patrol within the area.
9. The Ondo State Police Command on Sunday said it had arrested two persons in connection with the attack on a popular Fuji musician, Mr Abass Akande, also known as Obesere. The musician had earlier called on the state government to fish out and prosecute those who allegedly attacked him and destroyed his equipment in the state.
10. Pandemonium broke out on Tuesday after gunmen believed to be members of rival cult groups fired gunshots during the annual masqueraders festival held in the Orile Iganmu area of Lagos State. It was learnt on Sunday that at least three people were killed during the incident.
