1. Former Speaker of the House of Representatives, Yakubu Dogara, has warned that the escalating insecurity and poverty in northern Nigeria have become so dire that they must now be treated as a national emergency rather than a regional concern. Dogara, who spoke on Tuesday in Abuja, lamented over the worsening bloodshed across the region.
2. The Nigerian Independent System Operator has stated that electricity generation on the National Grid has dropped to 3,200 megawatts due to the industrial action by the Petroleum and Natural Gas Senior Staff Association of Nigeria, PENGASSAN. A statement by NISO said the disruptions by PENGASSAN triggered widespread gas shortages, reducing available generation from over 4,300 MW.
3. Leader of the Kwankwasiyya Movement in Gobirawa Ward, Dala Local Government Area of Kano State, Alh. Amadu Danfulani, on Tuesday, joined the All Progressives Congress (APC). Gobirawa is the largest ward in Nigeria, with the highest number of polling units in the country, it was learnt.

Boko Haram terrorists, Monday night, invaded Kirawa, a border community with Cameroon Republic, in Gwoza Local Government Area of Borno State, and killed one civilian, while another male resident was abducted. The terrorists also set ablaze several houses, including the palace of the District Head of Kirawa, Alhaji Abdulrahaman Abubakar, shops and other structures.
6. Former President Olusegun Obasanjo has called for urgent action on the country’s out-of-school children crisis, warning that they risk being recruited by Boko Haram terrorists. Speaking on Tuesday at the inauguration of the Bakhita ICT Centre in Sokoto, Obasanjo described the neglect of the country’s estimated 24 million out-of-school children as a “time bomb” waiting to explode.
7. President Bola Tinubu on Tuesday strongly condemned the killing of Ms. Somtochukwu “Sommie” Maduagwu, a news anchor with Arise News TV, urging security agencies to swiftly bring her killers to justice. The President described Maduagwu’s death during a robbery at her residence in Katampe, Abuja, as “cruel and condemnable.”
8. President Bola Tinubu has approved the appointment of new leaders for three federal agencies, in a move the Presidency says is aimed at strengthening critical institutions and boosting service delivery. The announcement was contained in a statement on Tuesday by Segun Imohiosen, the Director of Information and Public Relations at the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation.
9. The newly called-to-the-bar lawyer, Peace Onyesom, and her sister, Gift Onyesom, who were kidnapped along the Okene-Auchi Road on Friday, have regained their freedom. The victims’ brother, Godspower Onyesom, confirmed their release to reporters in a telephone conversation on Tuesday.
10. The All Progressives Congress in Lagos State has advised the Peoples Democratic Party to allow former President Goodluck Jonathan to enjoy his retirement from public office in peace, rather than luring him into the 2027 race. The party’s spokesman, Seye Oladejo, gave the advice in a statement on Tuesday in Lagos, following a declaration by Jerry Gana that Jonathan would contest for the presidency in 2027.
