The National Union of Petroleum and Natural Gas Workers, NUPENG, has alleged that Dangote’s half-brother and owner of MS Group, Sayyu Dantata, called on the Nigerian Navy to crush its members.
This development comes as NUPENG issued a red alert to members and affiliate unions for a fresh strike action against Dangote Group and its associates.
Williams Akporeha, the National President of NUPENG, disclosed this in a statement on Thursday.
According to the union, Dangote Group and its associates have vowed to frustrate the resolutions reached after the intervention of the Minister of Labour and Employment, Muhammad Dingyadi, and the Department of State Security.
NUPENG stressed that Dantata instructed truck drivers, who have been members of NUPENG’s Petroleum Tanker Drivers for several years, to remove the union stickers from their vehicles — an action which contravenes the resolution between the parties.
“Sayyu Dantata flew over them several times with his helicopter and then called the Navy of the Federal Republic to come over ostensibly to crush the Union officials.
“Our members are waiting for him and his agents to run them over,” the statement read.
Recall that NUPENG had suspended its strike action, which began on Monday in protest against Dangote Group’s anti-labour practices.
