Troops of Joint Task Force, North East ‘Operation Hadin Kai’, OPHK say they have neutralised 12 suspected members of Boko Haram/ISWAP terrorists after operations at various locations of Mafa local government area of Borno state. Sources revealed on Saturday that, apart from killing the terrorists’ assorted arms and ammunition were recovered by troops.
6. The governors of the six North-East states have called for subsidies on farm inputs to avert a potential food crisis across the country. The call was made in a communique issued at the end of the 12th meeting of the North-East Governors’ Forum, NEGF.
7. The Police Command in Oyo State says it has arrested a male driver, allegedly in possession of N1,000,000 fake currency. The Police Public Relations Officer, PPRO in the state, Adewale Osifeso, made this known in a statement he issued in Ibadan on Saturday. He stated that the suspect was arrested by the command’s Federal Highway Patrol Team during a stop-and-search operation on Friday.
8. At least 13 people have died and more than 20 remain missing after a boat carrying fleeing villagers capsized in a river in Zamfara State, northwestern Nigeria, officials and residents reported on Saturday. The incident occurred after armed men attacked communities in Birnin Magaji ward on Friday, forcing residents to seek safety by crossing a nearby river. According to locals, the boat was heavily overcrowded.
9. No fewer than 289 members of the ruling All Progressives Congress have officially defected to the Peoples Democratic Party in Sakwaya Ward, Dutse Local Government Area of Jigawa State. The defection event took place on Friday at the PDP ward office, with the party’s deputy state chairman, Umar Danjani, representing the state chairman to welcome the new members.
10. The International Committee of the Red Cross, ICRC, says no fewer than 13,595 families are still searching for 23,659 missing persons across Nigeria. The ICRC Family Link Officer, Mr Benson Lee, disclosed this on Saturday in Yola at the commemoration of International Day of the Disappeared. Lee said 59 per cent of the missing persons were minors at the time of disappearance, and 67 per cent of the incidents occurred in Borno.
