1. President Bola Tinubu has appointed the Deputy Controller General of the Federal Fire Service, (FFS) Olumode Samuel Adeyemi as the new substantive Controller-General of the Service. The appointment was announced in a statement on Wednesday by the Secretary of the Civil Defence, Correctional, Fire and Immigration Services Board (CDCFIB), Major Gen. Abdulmalik Jibril (rtd) on behalf of President Tinubu.
2. President Bola Tinubu, on Wednesday, met behind closed doors with Hon. Abdulmumin Jibrin, an ally of the leader of the New Nigeria People’s Party, NNPP and former governor of Kano State Rabbiu Musa Kwankwaso. Hon. Jibrin, who represents Kiru/Bebeji federal constituency of Kano State and former Chairman of Appropriation Committee in the 8th House of Representatives, is one of the loyalists of Senator Kwankwaso.
3. The Department of State Services on Wednesday released three persons detained on the suspicion of belonging to the outlawed Indigenous Peoples of Biafra, and involvement in the killing of seven Fulani cattle herders. At the same time, the Service is reviewing more than 20 cases of persons believed to have been wrongfully detained.
4. Governor Hyacinth Alia of Benue State on Wednesday night dissolved the State Executive Council. Alia, however, appointed a former two-term Attorney-General of the state and Commissioner for Justice, Barr. Moses Atagher, as his Chief of Staff.
5. The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPC) Ltd has ruled out the sale of the Port Harcourt Refining Company and the other three it operates. The Group Chief Executive Officer (GCEO) of NNPC Limited, Bashir Bayo Ojulari, announced this at a company-wide town hall meeting in Abuja. reaffirming corporation’s commitment to completing high-graded rehabilitation and retention of the plant.
6. The Interim National Publicity Secretary of the African Democratic Congress, Bolaji Abdullahi, says former Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, has not formally joined the party. Abdullahi, who made this known on Wednesday explained that the former Anambra State Governor remains part of the broader opposition coalition but is yet to become a card-carrying member of the ADC.
7. Heavy rainfall in the early hours of Wednesday led to the collapse of eight buildings and displaced some residents in Maiduguri, the capital of Borno State. It was gathered that the rain, which started around 6:15 am, lasted three hours, leading to the displacement of families in Bulumkutu, Abuja, Moduganari, Ngomari and other riverbank areas.
8. Former member of the Lagos Assembly, Hon. Victor Akande, is dead. Akande, a lawyer, reportedly died on Wednesday, July 30, 2025 from complications in an auto crash last week in Ojo.
9. The Presidency has dismissed as false the claim by former National Chairman of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Ralph Nwosu, that he was offered three ministerial appointments to back out of plans to align the ADC with the opposition coalition. Responding on Wednesday via his verified X handle, President Bola Tinubu’s media aide Daniel Bwala, described Nwosu’s allegations as a fabrication lacking credibility.
10. Vehicular movement along the Yelwata axis of the Benue–Nasarawa highway was brought to a standstill on Wednesday as Internally Displaced Persons, IDPs, staged a protest, demanding immediate return to their ancestral homes. The protesters, believed to be victims of persistent attacks by suspected herdsmen, blocked both lanes of the busy highway for several hours, chanting “We want to go back home”.
