NPFL: I’m not the Special One – Rangers coach, Ilechukwu

The head coach of Rangers International, Fidelis Ilechukwu, has shut down attempts to compare him with Jose Mourinho, who is famous for the moniker – the ‘Special One’.

Ilechukwu has led the Enugu team to their first Nigeria Premier Football League, NPFL, title in eight years.

This came after Rangers beat Bendel Insurance 2-0 at the Nnamdi Azikiwe Stadium in Enugu on Sunday.

They have now secured their eighth league title with a game to spare.

It is the second-longest title drought in the club’s history, after going without a league honour between 1984 and 2016 – an incredible 32-year wait.

Ilechukwu, who is in his first season with Rangers, recorded 20 wins and seven draws in 37 games.

The 45-year-old’s feat has seen some observers call him the ‘Special One’ in comparison with Mourinho.

However, Ilechukwu has insisted he would rather be referred to as the ‘Working One’.

Ilechukwu wrote on X: “I’m not the special one. They call me the WORKING ONE.”
