EPL: Why I substituted Casemiro at half-time during Man Utd, Brentford clash – Ten Hag

Manchester United boss, Erik ten Hag revealed that his decision to substitute midfielder, Casemiro at half-time during his side’s Premier League 2-1 win over Brentford on Saturday was purely tactical.

Casemiro was arguably Man United’s most influential player last season following his big-money move from Real Madrid.

But the Brazilian international has looked a shadow of his usual self this season.

Despite being given his marching orders in midweek during Man United’s Champions League defeat against Galatasaray, Ten Hag opted to retain the 31-year-old in his starting XI against Brentford at Old Trafford.

However, Casemiro delivered another sluggish performance against the visitors and was badly at fault for Mathias Jensen’s opening goal when he carelessly conceded possession in his own half.

Casemiro was then replaced by Christian Eriksen at half time as another substitute Scott McTominay scored two late brace to give the Red Devils the victory over Brentford.

Asked to explain the change, Ten Hag said at his post-match press conference: “I wanted more football.

“Someone who brings passing and link-up play so I brought on Eriksen for Casemiro.”
