Liverpool legend, Jamie Carragher defended Antony and blamed David de Gea for Manchester United’s 3-0 defeat to Sevilla in the second leg of their Europa League semi-final on Thursday.
Manchester United crashed out of the competition in an embarrassing manner, after losing 5-2 on aggregate on Thursday.
Youssef En-Nesyri fired the home side in front early following a mistake from England defender, Harry Maguire and immediately after the break, they made it two through Loic Bade’s looping header.
Carragher feels that David de Gea could have done better for both goals and the goalkeeper’s dismal night got even worse when the Spaniard gifted En-Nesyri a second goal with ten minutes remaining.
It was another very poor night for Jadon Sancho and right-back Aaron Wan-Bissaka and both were hauled off at half-time by Erik ten Hag.
England winger Sancho has been a shadow of himself since making a £73m move from Borussia Dortmund in 2021 and former Liverpool man Carragher believes Antony has already done more than the England forward at Old Trafford.
“Antony has done more in six months than Sancho has in two years, Yet Antony gets plenty of criticism and Sancho gets very little,” Carragher tweeted after the game.
