Court grants Chrisland permission to conduct independent autopsy on Whitney Adeniran

The coroner inquiring into the cause of death of a 12-year-old pupil, Whitney Adeniran, Tuesday, granted permission to the Chrisland school to conduct an independent evaluation of the autopsy on the remains of the deceased.

Magistrate Olabisi Fajana granted the permission while ruling on an application filed by the school to enable it to consult an independent pathologist on items obtained from the corpse by the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital (LASUTH).

Items requested include the student’s blood and other body fluids, skin sample, slides from which the diagnosis of electrocution was made, samples of bone and muscle taken from the deceased and samples of urine collected for the autopsy.

Also, the school further requested all photographs taken during the conduct of the autopsy, copies of all histology slides reported as part of the post mortem examination and other documents made in the course of the autopsy with access to results of all toxicology tests conducted on the late student.

The Magistrate ordered the chief medical examiner of LASUTH to provide all the items to the applicant’s pathologist’s laboratory on the day of forensic consultation.

It directed the consultation to be under the supervision of the chief medical examiner of LASUTH and the parents of the deceased.

Whitney’s parents are expected to testify in the case on the 17th of April.

Counsel to the state government, Akin George, did not oppose the application.
